What do you imagine when you hear the word Change?
Does it make you cringe with dread or do you get excited with child-like wonder? Learn more in today’s "Your Keto Journey"© post.
I recently read a business blog post entitled: “Dealing Effectively with Change.”
Millions of people share the writer’s thoughts about change.
What Change is:
- A step into the unknown. Since people don’t like the unknown, they tend to avoid change.
- Leaving what we know (think comfort zone). Without clear or precise definition, change can be like traveling to a different country. You either try to retain your old habits or you embrace the new and different with “childlike wonder”.
- Offers amazing opportunities to learn about things you didn’t know existed. Why do you suppose people read books, watch movies or enjoy hearing a good story?
How People React to Change:
- Bucking it or balking at change.
- Blaming others for their misfortune.
- Retreating in fear or going the other direction as long as possible.

So…how does Change affect us Keto Eaters?
I’m glad you asked.
- I’ve shared with you why our family does not refer to keto eating as a diet. If your friends, family or coworkers are giving you a hard time about the way that you choose to eat healthy, go back and read that post. Blog post #22 – Your Vocabulary is Important. Click this link to read it.
- Changing what you eat to lose weight:
If you truly are eating keto to lose excess belly fat, you need to change what you are consuming. Belly fat accumulates from:
- Too much sugar
- Excess proteins
- Artificially sweetened drinks
- Eating wheat and grains
- Eating too many carbs

3. Changing what you eat to get and maintain better health:
After changing the way that they ate, Dr. Don Colbert, in his book, “Dr. Colbert’s Keto Zone Diet” discusses the changes he saw in his patients who were suffering with diseases like:
- Sleep disorders
- Type 2 diabetes
- Chronic fatigue
- Autoimmune diseases, joint aches and more.
4. Changing habits:
If you must use salad dressings – either buy a healthy brand like Primal Kitchen (which will be noticeably thinner) or learn to make your own “clean” dressings.
If you use condiment sauces such as steak sauce, catsup, ketchup, chili sauce or cocktail sauces, read the labels slow and deliberately. If the label contains a lot of words that are hard to pronounce, chances are that you do not want to consume these ingredients.
Change over to clean products or learn how to make your own. Clean products generally have short ingredient lists and you are likely to be familiar with the items listed on the label.
Google the sauce or condiment you want with the word “recipe” and make your own. We found an excellent homemade BBQ sauce with just a few simple ingredients that takes less than 5 minutes to make. Then it simmers on low heat for a while. Much healthier and the taste is excellent.
We found a product called coconut aminos that is soy-free. We use it in recipes that call for soy sauce.
We also make use of citrus like lemons and limes to add flavor to meals and salads. You may wish to use the juice of citrus fruits alone or mixed with a good-for-you oil like avocado oil. We have found that avocado oil mixes well with other “clean” ingredients.
Yes, this is a Change for us. A change that we have both embraced and continue to enjoy!
In my “childlike wonder”, I sprinkled a few drops of lemon juice onto my scrambled eggs the other day. It was…new and delicious!!!
